Obert is popularly known for his incomparable powerful anointed stage work. He has gotten names for himself like “ The Dancing Elder”, “ The Dancing Evangelist”, “Elder Kapisi”, “David of today” etc all of them referring to how he dances for the Lord, without any limitations. Obert has managed to bring entertainment to both Christians and none Christian functions, all because of his stage work and talent. One of Zimbabwe’s popular celebrity DJs called him “shumba yepa stage” (the Lion of the stage)
Born and grew up in Gokwe, in the Midlands parts Zimbabwe. Obert comes from a family of singers. Obert started to sing and composing songs while he was heading cattle in the bushes of Gokwe, Nembudziya, Nyamhara. He still remembers one old song called “mago anoruma” which came after he was stung by a wasp.
Obert’s singing became serious when he received Jesus in Z.A.O.G.A Forward In Faith Ministries International. www.fifmi.org. Obert quickly joined the praise and worship team at his Assembly then in Sunningdale, Harare. Together with his big brother, mother and sisters they formed a family singers choir, which was popular with a song, called “rudzi rukuru” written by his big brother Joseph. They used to bless thousands of people at Regional Big Sundays. Obert went on to form a boys a cappella group called “ The Heavy Duty Boys”, which graced many conferences, youth gatherings, and youth get-togethers. In 1997 Obert joined the then popular E.G.E.A Gospel Train, where he meet and sung with the likes of Carol Munjokoro, Ivy Kombo, Zivanai Masango, Clive “Mono” Mkundu, “The Producer” Luckyson Chidzambwa and the celebrity Gospel Music Producer, Director Evangelist Pastor Admire Kasi. Obert then moved on and formed a group Trumpet Echoes that included female vocalists in 1998 unlike The Heavy Duty Boys. It is with the same group of which Obert has graced many weddings, and functions in Zimbabwe and in UK.
Obert Mazivisa did a duet with Shingisai Suluma on her UK Show on one of her songs “Ndewangu Mwana” from her album “Ndewake”.
Obert Mazivisa have so far recorded two albums first one called “Munhu Chii” in 2002 which has ministered to many lives. This album has testimonies from people that received Jesus after listing to the music on it. Many have been encouraged, ministered unto and ushered into God’s presence through this album.
Obert Mazivisa took a long break from recording and in 2010 he recorded his current album called “Come Along” which was recorded LIVE at Music Tek Studios in London, UK. Obert Mazivisa and his backing group Trumpet Echoes has proved to be powerhouse wherever they go they have managed to bring entertainment and the presence of God together as one.
Obert Mazivisa has shared stage with some of UK’s popular Gospel Artists and has graced many high profile Gospel Music stages and Conferences in UK. He has also been nominated in several music awards including the prestigious Africa Gospel Music Awards. He was the recipient of the Gospel Artist of the Year Awards from the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards in 2010.
Obert is married to Lucy Mazivisa and they are blessed with two children Princess Nyasha Nicole and Prince Ngoni Nathan.
